How to send Attached Spec-Sheets with QwikQuote.

The Microsoft MAPI behavior has changed a little so the original code will not work for attaching files.The fix for the issue is at the following link:

Use the Catalog view, “More Info” tab to check if the Spec Sheet page PDF file was imported for the item. Or you can use the “Browse” button to locate the PDF file you want to use for that item:

How make a Print Screen

Answer: When you have anything on a screen and you need to send it just simply hold down your Control Key and while it is being held down hit your Print Screen Button. It looks like nothing happen, but it did put it on your clipboard. Now just open Word and paste the Screen Shot on a blank page. Attach that to your Support Ticket on the support page on our web site and send it along with an explanation as to when you received the error.

Can't save a quote.

The Find Contact requires that you have setup the correct log in information in our program. The Bring in ACT! Contact circumvents this.

Can't find the path specified

Question: I received the following message when trying to install QwikQuote.

Answer: This is the type of message you will see if you are trying to install QwikQuote and you do not have sufficient rights. See below for Vista.

Administrator in Vista
In the Windows Operating System other than Vista or on a computer that has 3rd party protection software similar to Vista UAC, you can install QwikQuote properly with an Administrator Group User. If not, the QwikQuote installation program will prompt you for Administrator rights and the usual understanding of an Administrator Group User log in will work.
However, in Vista, the 1st user you set is an Administrator Group User it is not the overall Administrator. Therefore, the QwikQuote installation program is not able to advise you of this situation. If you just log in and try to install QwikQuote, you will see the above message.

Contact support@qwikquote.com if you feel you have sufficient rights and are still getting this message.

Discount Column

Question: "We require an additional column on the quote form to add a discount to each item individually. This discount is normally different for each line.

Answer: No problem just follow the steps below:

Go to Options > Advanced II and change the 1st Multiplier to Discount:

Old Quote still shows up

Question: "When I boot up QQ it pulls the last quote up, rather than a blank form. It does leave the contact header blank, but populates the form with the parts from the last quote."

Answer: There is a new feature that will auto back up the editing of a quote for a specified time. This is in case of a power falure. If you do not want to use this feature go to Options > Quote/Order Tab and un-click "Auto Backup Editing Quote Every." Then QwikQuote will start up with a new quote.

Network Installation Overview

Network Installation Overview:
If you will be installing QwikQuote on a network, choose one workstation and complete the entire install procedure on that chosen workstation.
Right click on Start > Explore.

Here you will see I have created a folder on my server by the name of QQTest on the D: drive:

Copy the QwikQuote Setup file 6.3.009 to your QQTest, and then run it.
QwikQuote will then install the program to that location.

Your Explorer now has QwikQuote installed:

Now go to Start > All Programs > QwikQuote 6 > Setup Wizard

Setup this as a Network Server and point to the Shared Directory in this case D:\QQTest. Hit the Config Button, it is grayed out here because it is not a real Serial Number.

Note: you may run this as a Network even if you do not have a Serial Number, in that case make sure you check the Free Trial Box. Click on the Config Button. At times you my encounter a “Can’t find Setup File” this may be the result of the place your downloaded the setup file to. Just click OK and it will find the right location.
Again, it would be best to copy your setup file to the QQ6 Server folder

you setup in my case the D:\QQTest.
You will see QwikQuote network server license is configured successfully.

You will then be asked if you want to configure this workstation to run QwikQuote.

After it successfully sets the Network Client Workstation you will be asked if you want to run QwikQuote now.

Congratulations you are done.

User Fields are Missing.

Question: I lost the names of my User Fields, how can I get them back?

Answer: Well chances are you did not lose them you only lost the index to them. This is an easy fix to get them back. I also included an explanation of some of the other fields that can loose its index files.

1) QFIELDS is used to store User's Field definitions.
2) QQUOTE is used to store quote information for quick searching.
3) RPTDATA is used to store detailed quote information for reporting.

Those files will be auto recreated if they are inadvertently deleted. If you have a back up copy, restoring the backup copy will work.

There is another way to get back the user's definitions from the quote files. When you run QwikQuote File Organizer, you can choose to recover User Field as follows:

Minimum Price on a Quote

Question: Can I set a minimum price that our salespeople can’t go below?
Answer: Yes. If you have a minimum price set in the Catalog QwikQuote will not allow your salespeople to go below that price. They will get a warning.

Can't see old quotes

Question: “My IT department moved my files on my computer and I can’t open old quotes. The problem is when I try to bring up an older quote I've done I can’t. Here is what is happening:
1. I go to the binoculars to pull up past quotes.
2. Enter past quote number - push "quote number" - as I have done for years..
3. It pulls the quote forward - "blackened" as it has been in the past...
4. I try to open it - and I can't - it tells me my files have been moved - to look under file menu to find - open quote.”

Answer: Until the last step, the find quote is looking at the QQuote.MDB so, that might not hit the real problem if the Quote file is not in the original location. Make a back up copy of the database file QQuote.MDB before you do anything.
Then try to use Del Missing button to remove the quote that does not point to the real file location and see if that will help. Make sure you are telling QwikQuote where your quotes are. (See File Location for more inforation)

Automation Error

When you press the email button, QwikQuote will try to create PDF file first.

To identify the error spot, try pressing the PDF button in the Quote View first to see if it can create a PDF file.

Setup and configure Outlook so that the computer can send out an email by itself before trying to send an email by QwikQuote. QwikQuote is not an email provider; it only uses the email ability of your computer.

Can’t Access QwikQuote Network

Question: My QwikQuote network seems like it it set up OK, however, my salespeople can't use QwikQuote?
Answer:
1. Check the rights settings of the QQ6 Server location (Server folder) see pictures below.
2. Another is to confirm that your QQ6 Clients have needed rights over the QQ6 Server location (Server folder). Have them make a little text file and try to save it to the QQ6 Server location. If they can do that, they should be able to do the same in QwikQuote.
3. Check Permissions in the Sharing Tab within Properties:

4. Add Full Control to that folder for anyone using QwikQuote.

5. In the Security Tab grant the same.

6. In the General Tab click Apply.

QwikQuote users will now have sufficient rights to that folder.
Note: this is not granting global rights to the server only the QwikQuote folder.

Can't change the Layout File

PDF - Controlling the File Name - Why “Save As” Does not Change PDF Name

Many people use the FILE/SAVE AS menu function to rename the .QTE files that holds their quotes. After saving the quote file, they convert the file to PDF. However, the PDF file does not carry the changed name.

This is because the name that is carried throughout the system is the one that is located in the “basic info” tab of QwikQuote. When you change the “save as” name, it is only a localized change, not a system wide change.

QwikQuote has a few features that will allow the user to control the file names as desired. Here are the 2 main ways to accomplish this objective:

Security Modes (Overview)

To meet different user’s environment and requirement of security, from small business at your home office to multi-national world wide corporation with hundreds of salespersons all over the USA and other countries, the we have defined 3 Security Mode. They are None Security Mode, Simple Security Mode, Full security Mode, and Easy Security Mode..

Depending on your working environments, you can easily swap between those modes by select the one suitable to your working environment and security requirement you want from the QwikQuote Security Mode Dialog. But you have to have QwikQuote Security system user’s privilege to be able to change security mode if the security feature is activated.

There are other security mode under consideration, such as Fixed Function mode that only allow a preset of functionalities pre-defined by the security system manager to be executed with out login and user name. The only control person is the security manager. In a small business and under controlled office working environment, this might a good idea to save the login every time. This mode might be released in the next release.

None Security Mode

This is the default security mode when you first run QwikQuote. Functionally speaking, it is corresponding to the QwikQuote before Security feature available. But in fact, you might have simple or full security settings there in the system, waiting to be activated.

In none Security mode,

· All the functions are available to every QwikQuote user.

· All the Security settings are not functional.

· There is no login to use QwikQuote, the same as before the security feature is available.

This is the security mode recommended for home office, and/or small business scenario, where working environment is secured and the efficiency is the main consideration.

Simple Security Mode This is a security mode designed for easy of usage as the main goal, yet offers complete control over all the important functionalities in QwikQuote. That is to say, the power and security control level is the same as full security mode, but the security management and the control over the control points are much simple.

Simple Security mode has to be selected and activated in the QwikQuote Security Mode Dialog so as to be active. To help you make the right decision for select this mode, a prompt message will show you the major features of this mode.

At any time, you can swap from None Security mode and Full Security mode to/from Simple Security mode as long as you have QwikQuote Security system user’s privilege.

In Simple Security mode,

· There is only one Security Manager who has all rights - predefined as QQAdmin with pre loaded password as QwikQuote.

· All users share the same rights set up by Security Manager QQAdmin.

· No Group(s) and Role(s) in defining security schema.

· Login is required to use QwikQuote.

This is the security mode recommended for use in small and middle sized scenario, where the simplicity of Security Management is concerned.

For example, if you are interested for some settings not to be accidentally changed by some users in your company, choose this mode to only limit those controls to the ones under consideration is a good choice.

Full Security Mode
This is a security mode designed with a full fly of serious security scenario. The power of security to meet the complex security requirement and the fine fitness on both side of security are under consideration.

In the case of multilevel security, divided security, and detailed security requirement are the main consideration, the Full Security mode is the good candidate of the choice.

At any time, you can swap from None Security mode and Simple Security mode to/from Full Security mode as long as you have QwikQuote Security system user’s privilege.

In Full Security mode,
· Only system users can login to QwikQuote Security Manager to perform security task, such and user management and set up right for individual user or group.
· Can use Group(s) and Role(s) in defining security schema.
· Every user, group, and role can have its own security settings reflected in its Access Control List (ACL). In other words, we can grand rights to individual entity in the QwikQuote Security system.
· Can set fine control method on each Control Point based on different functionality.
· Can preset the control choice or rights pattern on individual control point.
· Link OS user(s) to QwikQuote user(s) if the user has been added to the QwikQuote Security system.
· Login is required to use QwikQuote.
This is the security mode recommended for use in big corporate & companies scenario.

For example, if you have hundreds of sales forces and some sub divisions over other cities or countries, yet you need centralized control over the company as a whole, the Full Security mode is the natural choice.

The make full advantage features of full security mode, a good plan is the key to the successfully implement this mode. It is important to have a clear picture about how to divide the functionalities in your company, and match it to the schema of Full Security mode. It is a big task to efficiently divide and organize them into groups and roles.

Easy Security Mode
This is a mode much the same as the simple security mode.
In this mode, Administrator set the right for the rest of users by the default ACL as in the simple security mode.
But the key difference with the simple security mode is there is no user concept in this mode. Or put it another way, every one can be a user. The result of this mode is there is no login and no user management is needed. The net result is a well customized functionality copy of QwikQuote.
This is a convenient way to set up QwikQuote right for your controlled environment in a small business or organization.
To make life easy, it uses the same ACL as the Simple mode.

Security - Getting Started

Warning: If you set-up the Security Manager and change the password and can’t remember it, you will have to re-install the QwikQuote program. The sign-in and passwords are encrypted and we will have no way to read it.

PLEASE READ OVER CARFULY:

The basic idea of security in QwikQuote is a user’s right over a function control point. That is to say; a function under security control only allows those users who have the rights to execute that function. The rights of a user or entity in the QwikQuote Security system over control points can be granted or revoked by those users who have the Security system user privilege and the predefined system user QQAdmin.

Another important concept in the QwikQuote Security system is the Security mode, designed to meet the different security requirements, yet trying to keep it straightforward for users and management. If you want to use the security feature, the fist step is to select the right security mode than meets your security requirement, through the Security Manager. You can start the Security Manager either from Windows Start Menu, QwikQuote 6 program group, or the QwikQuote Security Manager:

When the program starts up, it is in None Security mode as shown in the window title. Since this is the first time login and there is no security mode selected yet, there is no login needed:

The general look and feel of the security manager is a Windows Explorer style window. At the left side of the window, there are major objects in the QwikQuote Security system, similar to the directory tree structure of the Windows Explorer. The right side has more detailed information then the properties of the selected objects in the left side. Dialogs will appear to help you complete the management tasks, such as user management and rights management. This explorer style is familiar to most of Windows users and should make the security management task easier.
Here are 3 things you should do the first time if you want to use the security feature. They are: a: Set the Security Mode,

b: Add user(s)

c: Set rights over control points.

Select the Security mode by click the security mode icon. This will bring up the dialog window that will allow you to change the security mode:

There are 3 modes defined in this release. As you move the mouse over that security mode, the help information shows you the most important characters of that mode. Please read the help information carefully, and make up a good plan what security you are going to use. In this example, we chose simple security mode as:

Please notice that the “OK” button will be enabled as your selection is valid.For this example, lets choose Simple Security Mode and click OK. When QwikQuote is installed, there is a predefined system Administrator or System user called QQAdmin.

The password QQAdmin is case sensitive.

The name of QQAdmin cannot be changed, but the password can be changed at your will. And we suggest you to change this password and to record it in a safe place.User QQAdmin cannot be removed from the QwikQuote security system. All other users can be removed. To add a new user, click at the root user the you double click any empty space at the user panel:

Set the rights over control points for default user, individual user, group, and role depending on the mode you selected.

There is no login and any one logged in will be act as system manager. But the next time login will need system user’s privilege to login to the Security Manager. In the simple mode, there is only one pre-defined system user with login name/Password as:QQAdmin/QwikQuote It is following the popular Explorer style, and the basic operation is to select an object from left panel and do something at the right panel if it is available. Right click any where at the right panel to bring up the pop up menu:

Select New User command to add new user. You should see the new user dialog, and add a new user i.e. SFan with the Password Fan. The Expire Date is important, and you should consider this now. Please fill in the rest of the Fields:

In our example: Click OK to add SFan to the system as a normal user. Add one more User to the system, say SFan 2/SFan 2, and then you should see:

At any time you want to change the property of any user, you can do it by double click on that user on left or right panel. It will bring you the same dialog, but you are not able to change login name and password anymore:

The security setting of individual control points is organized into 8 modules. Every module has different number of places to control. When expand them, they look like the following:

The checked means Enable, and the Unchecked means Disabled.

To facilitate the enable and disable, the parent check box can control its children control points as a group. For the test, let’s disable all of Price List control points:

and apply the changes by click the Apply button.

If you exit Security Manager and go back to use QwikQuote, nothing should have happen, for we did not set the Security Mode yet. To set up security mode, use the menu command:

In the Security mode window, select Simple Security Mode:

When the OK button is enabled, clicking it will bring up a confirm message:

After you click the Yes button, the QwikQuote will run in the Simple Security mode. Beware that, from then one, you need system user privilege to login to the QwikQuote Security manager. For the Simple Security Mode, it is QQAdmin/QwikQuoteExit Security Manager, and try to start QwikQuote, you will meet the login dialog:

Notice that quite a few command buttons and menu items has been disabled. In anther words, they are under security control now.

It is clear that, not every thing is controlled, but rather the important ones. Right now, there are 220 control points or items. (Most of the control points corresponding to one control item, but some control point may actually control 3 items – Menu, button, check box …)

If I log in as QQAdmin/QwikQuote:

Notice that, QQAdmin always has all rights. So be careful with the Password and keep it in a safe place.

Note: If you go set back the security mode back to none, there will be no security go QwikQuote applications, but the Security Manager still need system user’s privilege to login.

Printing Wrong Page

When you design a layout you must copy it over to the first page because QwikQuote measures the amount of space on a quote and picks either the Single Page or Multiple Page AKA First Page.

1. Go to the Single Page in the Layout to see if this is what you want the quote to look like:

2. Go to First Page and in the Edit Select All:

3. Click delete on your key board and select "Yes" when asked "Are you sure you want to delete the selected fields?" select Yes:

4. Another Box will appear and then Click OK:

5. Return to the Single Page and in the Edit menu click "Select All":

6. Go back to Edit > Copy Secected Fields to > First Page:

7. You are done, the First Page is now the same as your Single Page:

Currency Formats

Currency formats are usually handled by Windows: note that the following procedure may change currency formats for other Windows programs as well as QwikQuote. To change the currency symbols for another country:

1. Close QwikQuote. If you try to change the currency while running QwikQuote, you may cause errors that force you to shut down Windows in order to re-load QwikQuote.

2. Double-click on the Control Panel for Windows that is usually located in the Main window.

3. Double-click on "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options" with a picture of the earth.

4. Choose a country from the drop-down list in the first box. Choosing a country changes the currency and number formats to those usually associated with that country, but you can also further define the currency format through other buttons in the "International" box:

Adobe Reader Error Upon QwikQuote Launch

Error 1904
During your QwikQuote install, you might see ERROR 1904. This usually means that QwikQuote cannot find your Adobe Reader.
In addition, the following error will occur when QwikQuote cannot find your Adobe Reader each time QwikQuote launches.

If you get these errors, here are some things to check:
1. If you wish, you can default to Adobe Acrobat. However, you must always install the FREE Adobe Reader on your computer even though you might use it.

2. If you already have the FREE Adobe Reader on your computer, be sure that you are using Adobe Reader version 7 or newer.

In QwikQuote version 6.3.009 or older, Adobe Reader version 9 will indicate this error even though it is installed and working on your computer. If you wish, you can ignore the message and click “OK”. Your program will run OK. If you prefer not to see this error each time you start QwikQuote, you can un-install Adobe Reader 9 and install Adobe Reader 7 or Adobe Reader 8. QwikQuote will work with no error message and these older versions of Adobe Reader.

Error Code 5

Error Code 5 means that one of your QwikQuote indexes became corrupt. It is easy to
fix as follows:
Go to: Start > Programs > QwikQuote 6 > QwikQuote Setup Wizard and click on the
Configure button. That will create a new index.

1. Go to the Price List window by clicking on the Price List button at the top of the screen.

5. Click on the IMPORTME.DBF file so that it appears in the "File Name:" box in the upper left of the "Open File for Import" box (Make sure the Files of type: selection box says "DBase III"). Then click on "Open".

6. Click on the down arrows on the right side of the box labeled "Part Number" and click on the choice called "PART_NO." You have just told QwikQuote that you want to import the field "PART_NO" into the Part Number field within QwikQuote.

7. Make appropriate choices for the rest of the fields. For instance, choose "MANUFACTURE" from the list for the field labeled "Manufacturer."

8. It is not necessary to have a choice for each field. For instance, you would leave the "Weight" field as "None" since there is no data to import to that field.

9. When you have aligned the fields, click on the "2. Import Records" button to begin the process. .10. QwikQuote asks you to create a new database by naming it. Enter a database name in the "File name" field. For instance, "Products." You do not have to add the ".mdb" extension, it will be added automatically for you. Then click "Save".11. The bar that appears below the import buttons will fill to 100% while QwikQuote imports the records, and you will see the list you have imported in your product database.

10. QwikQuote asks you to create a new database by naming it. Enter a database name in the "File name" field. For instance, "Products." You do not have to add the ".mdb" extension, it will be added automatically for you. Then click "Save".

Freezing a Price / Un-Freezing a Price

"Freezing" a price keeps it from changing when you apply other pricing formulae to the products you are quoting. In other words, if you freeze a price at 25%, then apply a margin of 17% to the entire quotation, the frozen price will remain set at 25%. This can be particularly helpful if your customer insists upon receiving very low prices on commoditized products that commonly sell at low margins. You can freeze certain prices to meet competition, and allow other prices to recalculate according to your formulae. Use the F4 Key to toggle "F" on and off. How to create a Bundle

Create bundles like quotes: when you create a bundle, you turn a small quote into a bundle that can be used within other quotes. To create a bundle:

1. Click on the [New Quote] button to clear any quote in Quote.

2. Select items in the Price List window or enter new items in Quote as you would normally for any quote.

3. In Quote, click on the Pricing pull-down menu at the top of the screen, then choose "Create Bundle".

4. The QwikQuote Bundles box appears with the parts that you had selected in the quote.

5. Type in a name for the bundle in the box marked, "Bundle Name:".

6. To freeze a bundled price permanently (it will not recalculate when you apply pricing formulae later to the entire quote), click on the "X" box next to "Freeze Bundle Price." (If the "X" already appears, you don't need to click.) The "X" toggles on or off each time you click on the box.

7. To include prices for every line item, click on the phrase "Include Line Item Prices." The "X" next to it toggles on and off.

8. To include manufacturers' names for every item, click on the phrase "Include Manufacturer." The "X" next to it toggles on and off.

9. To include Part Numbers for every item, click on the phrase "Include Part Numbers." The "X" next to it toggles on and off.

10. Enter a percentage amount for which the bundle will be taxed in the field named "Tax." This defaults to the percentage set in the Options Catalog tab.

11. Click on [OK].

Installing QwikQuote

FULL Setup File
STEP 1. Determine if any of the notes below pertain to your installation and react accordingly:

NOTE (1): If you will be using an external contact manager, such as ACT!, GoldMine, OUTLOOK etc., it would be best to install, open and test your Contact Manager before installing QwikQuote. Although you can install the contact manager at a later date, the installation will be much easier if QwikQuote is the final program that you install. This is because of a built-in software crawler in QwikQuote that auto-configures some of the setup files and other links.

NOTE (2): If you will be installing QwikQuote on a network, choose one workstation and complete the entire install procedure on the chosen workstation. When QwikQuote is operating OK on that workstation, you can repeat the same procedures on the others.

NOTE (3): If you already have QwikQuote on your computer, it would be best to remove it now. Go to the Control Panel of your computer and find ADD/REMOVE. Be sure to remove ONLY QwikQuote. Do not remove any other programs. The license file should not be removed and this procedure will not remove it. In addition, this procedure will not remove your data files, although it is always best to backup valuable data when performing an install operation such as this.

NOTE (4): If you had an older version of QwikQuote, the initial goal is to update your license file so that the new program will work with the new license. On a network, the license file is usually located on the shared network drive. On a single user QQ install, the license is usually located in C:\program files\QQ6. When installing the new setup file, it does not matter where the license file is located because the computer knows if it is already set up with a QwikQuote license. If you wish to determine where your computer or workstation is seeking a license file, check the SETUP WIZARD described later in these instructions.

NOTE(5): VISTA - If your computer uses the VISTA operating system, you must turn off the User Access Control (UAC) before installing any programs. Go to “Help and Support”. Type in the search term “UAC”. Then follow the computer generated instructions on how to turn off the UAC. If you have any questions, contact QwikQuote Tech Support.

STEP 2. Download, install and open the free Adobe Reader from the Adobe website (Vista users, see note #5 below). Be sure that you get the FREE Adobe Reader. The full versions are not useful for our purposes at this time. If you already have the Adobe Reader installed on your computer or workstation, then you do not have to perform this step. Here is the URL needed to download the FREE version:

STEP 3. Download the QwikQuote Setup 6.3.007 file at the following Internet Link and save it on your computer or chosen client. It is important to remember where you save it:

STEP 4. After you have uninstalled any old QwikQuote programs that may be on your computer, shut down as many other programs as possible. Then run the Full Install Setup.exe file that you downloaded in step number 2. When you run this setup program, it will initially expand the license box and might not proceed until you enter a license number. If you have not had QwikQuote on your computer before, you will be able to run it as a demo for 30 days without a serial number. If it asks for a serial number, see the step #5 below on how to enter the new serial number.

STEP 5. QwikQuote might not operate properly until a new serial number is entered. If you are running a “Demo”, you do not need a serial number – the full version of QwikQuote will operate for 30 days without a serial number but you will have to “config” as described here. Get your new serial number ready to COPY into your clipboard. When entering the new serial number, DO NOT TYPE IT IN – JUST COPY and paste - using your mouse. To enter the new serial number, go to START/PROGRAMS/QWIKQUOTE 6/QWIKQUOTE SETUP WIZARD – then navigate to the first tab called “config”. The top of the new license box will read 6.3.0.7. BE sure that the radio button is checked for “Workstation” or “Single” user, as appropriate. If on a network, be sure that the “Network location” is correct. If on a single user computer, the best license location is the default location, usually C://Program Files/QQ6. Delete any old serial numbers that may exist. Then use your mouse to paste (do not hand type) in the new serial number. If this is a demo, no serial number is needed, just select the “DEMO” tab. Finally hit the “config” button in the middle of the page.

STEP 6. To test - launch QwikQuote and check help/about for the new serial number and new version number - V. 6.3.0.7.
If on a network, you should run the full install file that was downloaded in step #3 on each individual client. It will NOT be necessary to enter the serial number again because it will have already been placed on the shared drive by the first client install. Just run the .exe setup file, go into the setup wizard and run “config”.

STEP 7. After the serial number has been entered properly, you have 30 days to enter an activate key. To get an activate key, go to setup wizard – and select the tab on the top-right called “Email Registration”. If you are on a POP 3 account, you can send the information automatically to us. When we send you the activate key, you can enter it under the LICENSE INFORMATION” tab. If you are not on a POP 3 email account, you must copy the information on the page into your clipboard and email it to support@qwikquote.com.

STEP 8. Final Notes – When QwikQuote is open, on the desktop page, you will see a large tab called “OPTIONS”. Select “OPTIONS”. Then select the tab called “Contact”. Be sure that the contact manager is properly selected and properly set up. If you are not using an external contact manager, you should select “QwikQuote”. The QwikQuote contact manager is a free flat file database that is used as a default for everyone who does not select an external contact manager. At this time, navigate to the tab called “File Locations”. This lists the locations of most of your data files. If you are using a single user setup, it is best to leave the default locations as listed. On a network, you would point to the shared locations.

About Your QwikQuote License – SETUP WIZARD

Setup Wizard – The license information can be found and configured in the SETUP WIZARD. To launch the SETUP WIZARD, go to START/PROGRAMS/QWIKQUOTE6/QWIKQUOTE SETUP WIZARD. The center tab of the setup wizard is called “license information”. This is where you will find the details concerning you license.

Your QwikQuote License consists of 3 different numbers.1. Serial Number is supplied by QwikQuote when you buy copy. Serial numbers should be entered by using the mouse to paste the number in place. Once you enter your Serial Number for the first time, QwikQuote should operate OK for a few months without having to enter any of the other numbers. If you are changing from an old to a new serial number, however, you may need to enter BOTH the new serial number and the new activate key at the same time in order to change the registration.2. Machine key is exclusive to your machine and is generated by your computer.
3. Activate Key can be obtained by registering your copy of the program. When you send QwikQuote the Serial number and machine key, we will send you your activate key. The easiest way to get an activate key is to go into the 3rd tab in the setup wizard called “Email Registration”. If you have a POP 3 email account, all you need to do is complete the information and click “send”. If you do not have a POP3 email account, you should copy the information into a clip board, paste it it into an email, and send it to support@qwikquote.com.

Error Code 3734

PRB: Error Message 3734 Occurs When You Repeatedly Open and Close MDB File
Q274211. The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Visual Basic Professional Edition for Windows, version 6.0
Microsoft Visual Basic Enterprise Edition for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS
If you repeatedly open and close a Microsoft Access database (MDB) in a multiuser situation, the following 3734 run-time error message may occur:
The database has been placed in a state by user ‘Admin’ on machine ‘machinename’ that prevents it from being opened or locked.

CAUSE
Jet locks a block of 256 bits in the MDB header. Included in this block of bits are bits that indicate a “passive shutdown”, which causes the error message described in the “Symptoms” section to occur. You may have users that open and close the MDB file rapidly and the bits are not getting unlocked quickly enough. When a user tries to open the MDB file, if the program is not able to read the bits, Jet assumes that the user is in a “passive shutdown” or “admin mode”, and therefore will not let the user open the MDB file.

RESOLUTION
Repeatedly opening and closing a Microsoft Access database is not recommended. Open the database once at the beginning of the application, and then close the database at the end of the application.

STATUS
This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION
The 3734 error code is new with Microsoft Access 2000. Jet 4.0 introduces a new feature called Connection Control. Error 3734, associated with this feature, normally occurs when you try to open a database if the database is opened exclusively by another user. Databases are opened exclusively when design changes are being made. However, no design changes are being made to the database in this situation when the error occurs.

Import a Price List

Select the file you wish to import.
Choose the database type of your file in the lower left corner of the "Open File for Import" box by clicking on the arrow under "List Files of Type."

Select the file name in the upper left corner. Note that dBase files usually use an extension of *.DBF, but they may also use other extensions. If you can't find your file right away, try changing the "File Name" box from *.dbf to *.* (Type in *.* and press the ENTER key.) This enables you to see all the files in a directory, not just the ones that end in .dbf or .mdb

Click once on the name of the file. Click once on [OK].

You have now selected the database to import and are ready to choose the fields you want to import. The fields in your existing price list can be easily aligned with QwikQuote fields by clicking once on the down arrows next to the fields you want to include such as Part Number, Manufacturer, Description, etc. Lining up Manufacturer fields in Import

The names of the fields in your original price list will appear. Click on the appropriate names for each field: for instance, if you want to include your "Mfr" field in QwikQuote's "Manufacturer" field, click on "Mfr" in the list of fields in the drop-down menu.

If you do not have a field that matches a QwikQuote field, select the first option in the list: "None."

The only required import field is Part Number since QwikQuote uses the unique part number to identify every product.

If you do not have part numbers, you must return to the program in which you created your original list, and add a unique number to each product.

When you have chosen the fields you want to align, click once on (Import Records.) A blue progress bar will appear and reach 100% when all of the records are imported and all appropriate indices are created. A Pentium-based computer will take about 10 minutes to import 20,000 records the first time.

When the records are imported, the Import Box will close automatically and return to the Price List window.

Finding the Setup Wizard

License and Registration information is maintained in the QwikQuote Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard program is separate from the QwikQuote main program and is accessed outside of QwikQuote. The easiest way to launch the setup wizard is through the windows menu. First shut down QwikQuote so that any configuration changes to QwikQuote will not be blocked by the open program. Then go to START/PROGRAMS/QWIKQUOTE 6/QWIKQUOTE SETUP WIZARD. The Setup Wizard menu item is accompanied by an icon of a key. The following screen shot illustrates how to find the setup wizard through the Windows Menu:

Get the latest update of your Windows OS from Microsoft Update web site if you see this error code. This will get you to latest version of windows installer.

Login as Administrator, only the Administrator has rights to change protected system files.
Try to set the regional settings to be compatible with English USA. This is because basically QwikQuote is an English program, but works in a number other languages.

If you are still having problem installing the new full install 6.3.009, try to install the full install of 6.3.002. Then install the Update release of 6.3.007. With this approach, the feature and function of QwikQuote is the same, but the file protection with the Windows OS is easier than full setup – under Windows Installer controls.

How to Remove QwikQuote

1. Backup your QQ data (quotes, layouts, pricelist, etc.) Take a screen shot of your License Information tab in the QQ Setup Wizard. You will use this same licensing after your reinstall.

2. Execute the QQRemove.exe located in your QQ6 folder. This will remove QQ from your machine. When the process is running, if it prompts you with a pop up asking 'Cancel, Retry or Ignore' -- click Ignore. After the remove is completed, delete the QQ6 folder. (Be sure to do step #1)

3. After this is completed, reboot your machine.

4. With a high speed internet connection, go to www.qwikquote.com and download our Free Trial (be sure to save the file to your hard drive).

5. Install the Free Trial.

6. Go to Start, Programs, QwikQuote 6, QwikQuote 6 Setup Wizard. Select the proper running mode, uncheck demo if it is checked, enter in your Serial # (from your screen shot above). If this is a local single user, your server location directory should be c:\Program Files\QQ6. If this is a network client workstation, then your server location should reflect the proper path to the shared folder on the server. Click Config.

Keep in mind that full administrative rights are needed for QQ to run properly. Not on an entire network, just for QQ access i.e. QQ6 Folder. If you are using a third party contact manager, be sure you have full access as well.

Cover Page, Ending Pages, Terms

Many salespeople wish to include opening and closing documents as part of a quotation. These pages are easily defined in QwikQuote. There is one cover page and 11 ending pages that can be attached to a layout. These pages can include any of the page elements described above.

The cover page is often used as a letter to describe the quote to the client. The body can be a standard paragraph created by adding a text element to the layout, or it can be a field that is linked to a notes user-defined field which contains personalized text.

Ending pages can be used for a variety of purposes. In addition to providing more information to the client, ending pages can be used to create internal reports. Summary sheets which includes cost and commission information can be printed and filed from each quote.

Labels, Fields, Text, Graphics

Labels - Static text strings that can be used to represent field names or single line comments, disclaimers, etc. Any format can be applied to these elements; however, the format changes effect every character in the label.

Fields - These are pieces of data obtained from the specific quote you will be printing. There are 40 different fields to choose from, such as quote number, current and expiration date, complete and partial address elements of your customer, salesperson, commission, total cost etc. In addition, you can add any user-defined field from the quote. These fields can contain payment terms, credit card information, notes, etc. Finally, you can any field you like from your external contact manager.

Text - This powerful feature allows you to add any number of fully formatted text elements to a quote. Unlike elements, every character can be formatted differently. These elements are typically used to present Company titles, terms and conditions and warrantee information.

Graphics - Any number of graphics can be added from a wide variety of image formats, such as bmp, jpeg, gif, etc. In addition to company logos, these elements are often used place fancy frames and other graphic elements onto the quote to further individualize the document.
